Helping Out Their Alma Mater By: Jordan Sirianni

University of Pittsburgh Alumni tend to stay loyal to their roots and contribute years beyond they graduate.

First, Josef Madar gave a great cover letter workshop on October 4. For those who applied for internships at PNC, his advice was very beneficial. If you are writing a cover letter and need help, ask anybody who went for the templates that Joe distributed.
Second, Justin Rosenkaimer (an PBL alumnus) overviewed tricks with Microsoft Excel on October 7th. Justin also works for PNC and had valuable advice of tools to tone prior to job and internship searching. The ability to use Excel efficiently was highly recommended.
Third, Caitlin McLaughlin gave advice on how to Break into investment banking. Being Head of Strategic Recruitment for PNC, Caitlin also had valuable advice. The event was another great networking opportunity and overviewed many premises of corporate and institutional banking.

Last, on October 28, with a Masters and Ph.D from Pitt, Dr. Jagdish N. Sheth gave a presentation on his book “Why Good Companies Fail.” In a time where economic conditions make success difficult, his advice is very useful for entrepreneurs and CEOs. I highly recommend reading his novel.
Also thank you to current members for their workshops. The Diversity Team (Sean Christian and Dana Brandau) gave a great presentation on international business etiquette on October 12. Their powerpoint has many useful tips for when abroad if anybody wants it. Also, Emily Dotson gave an interactive presentation on how “Leadership is Not Just Giving Orders” on October 25.Emily also had great advice about being an effective and successful leader.
